Since moving ever further North, I have been intrigued, enthralled (one might say obsessed?) with the elusive Northern Lights, or Aurora borealis. I have seen them glowing green on the horizon, dancing and swirling, ghostly white and pink in the starry skies. To me they are a visible trace of the energy of the universe in its eternal dance, taking on changing shapes and forms so fantastical as to seem unreal. I painted these from my "mind's eye" late at night with Lake water that had just reflected the aurora. Using a combination of inky indigo and gray, iridescent white, and chartreuse pigment, I tried to re-create and capture the feeling. A light sprinkle of silver metallic pigment stardust was the final touch.
